Week ending Friday 15 September 2017

On Saturday 2 September, the Bexley Village Cricket Festival took place at Bexley Cricket Club.

Along with a team from Beths Grammar, there were also teams from St Mary’s Church, St John’s Church, Bexley Cricket Club and Bexley Cricket Club Bee’s (the girls team).

Making up the Beths team were Jack Bleksley, Archie Hobbs-Moore, Lucas Hart and Joshua Anderson.
Beths first match was against Bexley Cricket Club, which we unfortunately lost. They then played against both St Mary’s Church and then St John’s Church, winning both matches. Beths had got through to the final and played against Bexley Cricket Club and won! All matches were 5 overs. Lucas and Archie both got 20 runs in every game and Josh bowled well.

The picture above shows Mr Blyghton, Acting Headteacher being presented with the winners’ plaque by Peter Bleksley, Chair of Bexley Cricket Club.

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week 11+ testing took place at the school. Over the course of the two days nearly 1200 Year 6 boys arrived to be tested here. All went extremely smoothly and our normal ‘drop off and go’ system for parents ran as effectively as always.

On Thursday evening we were delighted to welcome the parents of Year 12 students to Beths for an informal get together with their son or daughters’ form tutors. This was followed by an introduction to what ‘life at Beths’ is all about from Mr Blyghton, Acting Headteacher and Mr Neylan, Senior Deputy Headteacher.

Today saw the school photographers in taking photos of students in Years 7, 9, 10 and 12. Details will be sent to you shortly about how to purchase these photos.
Volunteers

We are looking for parents and carers who may be interested in coming into school to help either in lessons, sporting activities or lunch/after school clubs. For instance, our Modern Foreigh Language department are particularly interested to find a German native speaker(s) who would be happy to come into school, ideally for 2-3 hours per week, to help our older students with their vocabulary and speaking skills.

We are also interested in anyone who may be keen to become involved in our sporting activities or indeed in running either a lunchtime or after school club. If you have a particular skill or hobby that you think our students would enjoy doing, we would be delighted to hear from you.
All volunteers would need to have DBS certificates but we would organise this for you.
If you are interested please contact Mrs Fitzgerald, Headteacher’s PA at headspa@beths.bexley.sch.uk.

Parents Association Update

Lots of winners over the summer! Summer Raffle winners are as follows: Mrs F Hally won first prize of a Nintendo Switch, Mrs J Tarrant is going to be enjoying a two night hotel break, and for the second year running a new Year 7 parent who drew the first prize in the Summer Draw, well done Mrs M Nacsciklar who won the Echo Dot.

We have six new winners for the Monthly Draw to report for July, August and September. The winners of the £20.00 prizes were Mr M de Large, M Hadaki and Mrs J Ehidramlem. The winners of the £10 prizes were Mrs N Fair, Mrs J Stratham and Mr Sealey. Congratulations to all of our winners!

We have had a little bit of a spending spree recently, providing prizes for Mrs Tree’s Public Speaking Group, we have bought timpani drums for the music department and camping equipment for Year 8 Camp. There are a lot more school requests in the pipeline, so please keep coming along to our events, keep buying our refreshments at parents meetings and keep buying raffle tickets and lucky numbers, so we can continue to support the school and it’s students.

Coming Up…

Language and Culture Week commences on Monday 25 September and Year 7, 8 and 9 students are invited to dress up in international dress on Wednesday 27 September. This could be the dress of their family’s country, that of a friend or simply a country or culture they admire. They must be recognisable! We are making a collection for Water Aid and suggest that all those boys who do dress up on the Wednesday make a contribution of £1.00 to our collection.
