We encourage the development of self-discipline in students, by making it clear what they must do and constantly encouraging them to do so.

We consider that good discipline comprises doing one’s best work, showing consideration for others, whilst co-operating with peers and always trying to be on one’s best behaviour.

School Rules

Several arrangements, which we wish to see adhered to, are mentioned in these notes. These are to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the School and to ensure its continued good reputation.

We do not make a large number of rules which tend to develop a legalistic, hair-splitting attitude and have to be frequently altered or added to. Instead, we trust students to have the common-sense to observe the reason for our four basic rules.

• Do nothing that will endanger or inconvenience others

• Do nothing that will endanger yourself

• Do nothing which will detract from the good reputation of the School

• Work to the best of your ability at all times

The Governors have drawn up a Home/School Agreement which we ask parents and students to sign as an acknowledgement of the partnership between home and school to provide the best education for your son. These Agreements will be issued to you in September.

Seeing that the rules are obeyed

School discipline is ultimately the responsibility of the Headteacher.

The authority is delegated to other staff, both teaching and non-teaching and, in routine matters, to Senior Student prefects. All reasonable requests and directions from staff and prefects must be obeyed.

In order to protect the reputation of the school in our wider community, this discipline must be accepted when students are on their way to school, whilst at school, or on the way home, when taking part in a school trip or journey, representing the school or taking part in any function, even loosely connected with the school.

If you have any worries about the way your son has been treated, please do not hesitate to contact the school directly, so that we can discuss the situation further with you, in an attempt to resolve the issue.
