Attendance
We provide a platinum-standard education at Beths Grammar School and empower our students to achieve outstanding academic and personal achievements, both within and outside the classroom.
The most effective way we can support our students to reach their potential is if they attend school every day. However, we understand that in our Sixth Form, students may very occasionally require a day of leave to visit universities as part of their decision-making process. We therefore have a robust process in place to ensure we can enable our students to make the right choices for their future.
University Visits & Open Days
We are committed to supporting our students in making confident, well-informed decisions about their university future. As part of this process, we encourage each student to personally visit the universities they are interested in before applying. Experiencing a campus firsthand – its atmosphere, facilities, and surroundings – can make all the difference in finding the right fit.
To help facilitate these visits, we authorise up to two days of leave per academic year for students to attend university open days. We encourage students to make use of weekend and school holiday open days whenever possible, as many universities offer these options. Ideally, students in Year 12 should use these visits to explore their options, while those in Year 13 should reserve their leave for attending post-offer applicant days.
Before attending any visit, all absence requests should be made by parents or carers by emailing 6FATTENDANCE@BETHS.BEXLEY.SCH.UK at least two school days in advance, along with any supporting evidence (such as an appointment card or interview confirmation). Students must also discuss their plans with subject teachers to ensure all missed work is caught up.
Please note that to uphold these guidelines, requests must come directly from parents or carers – we cannot accept requests submitted by students themselves. Requests that do not meet these criteria may not be authorised.
For awareness, authorised absence due to other reasons will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
