At Beths, we provide a huge variety of extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs to inspire our students to explore their passions and talents. These opportunities encourage them to step out of their comfort zones, uncover hidden skills, form new friendships, and gain valuable experiences. Along the way, they build essential life skills, embrace challenges, develop leadership qualities and grow in confidence and resilience. At Beths we use a system called SOCS to manage and communicate our sports and co-curricular activities to students and parents.

Sports Fixtures

Our extra-curricular offer includes sports clubs such as basketball, rugby, football, cricket, and athletics, with team training for each year group and recreational games for those who enjoy socialising with their peers. We compete at every level from inter-house games to regional and national competitions.

After-School Clubs

We have several popular after-school clubs which appeal to students with a variety of interests. Some of our most popular clubs include drama, film club, newspaper club, Lego club, debate club, guitar club, STEM club, and our LGBTQ+ society. We additionally provide a whole host of other activities from gardening and chess to creative writing and robotics.

Music and Performing Arts

We have a legacy of outstanding music and performing arts across our school, with our students taking to the stage. Each year, we put on a huge school production which is fully led by our students. They not only sing, dance and act but direct, support with costume designs, organise lighting and undertake backstage running to ensure performances run without a hitch. Recent productions have included The Addams Family and Oliver!

We also support our students with a desire to play musical instruments through our Orchestra, Junior Band, Big Band and Choir. We additionally hold a Music Showcase each year, you can watch our 2024 showcase here.

Mandarin Excellence Programme

As Mandarin is now one of the most spoken languages in the world, we provide our students with the opportunity to learn another language through the Mandarin Excellence Programme.

This is an intensive language programme funded by the Department for Education, and we work with UCL Institute of Education and the British Council to be at the forefront of delivering the programme.

Beths is one of the first schools to provide this UK-wide programme and we offer 30 places to Year 7 students each year, selected by aptitude. Students on the programme study eight hours of Mandarin Chinese a week – including four hours of classroom-taught lessons. Participating students strive to be fluent in just a few years, setting them apart from others when applying to university and pursuing high-achieving careers in the world of work.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

We provide the opportunity for our students to take part in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. It is one of the world’s best-known and most respected achievement awards and offers our pupils to take part in volunteering, physical activity, skills and an exciting expedition. Throughout the bronze, silver and gold schemes, our students have the opportunity to go on adventures with their friends, give back to their community and importantly gain life-long skills that will serve them throughout their time in education and the world of work.

Charity and Community Involvement

We make it our mission to create opportunities for students to contribute to the school and our wider community. We strive to provide exciting and engaging experiences for our community, ensuring we are caring for those around us and our planet, always giving back and making positive contributions to society. This includes running mentoring initiatives with local primary schools, helping local charities close to our hearts, and supporting those in need.
