Beths Scholar
We are incredibly proud of our students at Beths Grammar School – they are well-rounded young people who have outstanding academic, extra-curricular and social skills. It is the combination of these elements that makes them all Beths Scholars.
A Beths Scholar is someone who embodies our three school values: Excellence, Community, and Respect. We expect all our students to demonstrate these values in the classroom, wider school environment and any independent studies that they undertake, and therefore all to be Beths Scholars. We will support, stretch, and challenge our scholars during their time at Beths Grammar School to ensure that they leave us as confident individuals who are proud of their education and being part of our school community.
The concept of the Beths Scholar is also embedded into our rewards system. We reward scholars who have excellent attainment, attitude to learning and contribute to extra-curricular activities and the wider school community. The display boards by our student reception recognise outstanding scholars within different key stages and publicly celebrate their success.
At KS3, the report system reflects the concept of the Beths Scholar and our school values too. Teachers create bespoke reports for scholars, which means that they are personalised and made to reflect individual progress. For each subject, the report details their attitude to learning in the classroom and their attitude to homework as well as a personalised end of Year 9 target grade, which is a prediction based on KS2 data.
Finally, we have created an overall Beths Scholar standard. For each subject, scholars are awarded one of three standards: working towards Beths Scholar, Beths Scholar and Beths Super Scholar. Teachers decide which standard scholars are currently at in a holistic way, using classwork and assessments to ascertain whether scholars are on track to achieve their individual target in each subject, as well as considering their learning habits. The Super Scholar standard will only be awarded to scholars who making excellent academic progress and display an outstanding scholarly attitude by embodying the school values of excellence, community, and respect.
